Standards is a very broad topic. Are we concerned with curriculum standards and standardized testing? Are we concerned with standards in practice? Are we concerned with societal expectations as standards? This is a difficult topic which often carries a variety of perspectives, all of which have elements of value and those that can be critiqued. Some provinces have well defined and developed standards for curriculum, special needs and teachers, while others have guidelines that are open to flexibility and interpretation by the working professionals. With standards come exceptions, and how do we define those parameters? Do we want to define them at all?
